What "Herbalife on eBay" really means
eBay is a peer-to-peer marketplace. The seller behind a Herbalife listing is typically a private individual clearing out stock they no longer want, a former member selling leftovers, or a trader importing from abroad. Herbalife bans marketplace sales precisely to keep every tub traceable – so an eBay listing has, by definition, left the controlled chain.
eBay adds problems of its own: auction and "used" listings where tubs may already be opened, products stored for months in a garage, and "buy it now" lots from sellers with a handful of feedback. This is also the environment where counterfeit clones – copied labels, unverified contents – are easiest to sell, because there is no brand behind the listing and no lot-number check. Herbalife warns that counterfeit and tampered products circulate on online platforms, and police have shut down at least one factory making fake Herbalife shakes for online sale.
Even with an honest seller you are usually buying short-dated stock at a price that looks good until you check the best-before date, with no guarantee of a refund once the tub is open.
