Herbalife Formula 1 Calories, Protein and Ingredients Explained

Herbalife Formula 1 Calories, Protein and Ingredients Explained

A serving of Herbalife Formula 1 is 2 scoops (26g) of powder mixed with 250ml of semi-skimmed milk. Made this way it provides around 18g of protein and 5g of fibre, together with vitamins and minerals (at least 38% of the recommended daily intake), for roughly 220 kcal. The exact figures vary slightly by flavour, so always check the label on your tub. Below we explain what is in the powder, why the milk matters and how Formula 1 compares with a typical breakfast.

How many calories are in a Herbalife shake?

The powder alone is light: most of the calories and a large part of the protein come from the milk you mix it with. That is why the recommended preparation uses semi-skimmed milk or a fortified plant drink.

Prepared with 250ml of…What changes
Semi-skimmed milk (recommended)The reference preparation shown on the label, about 220 kcal and 18g protein
Skimmed milkSlightly fewer calories, similar protein
Unsweetened soya drinkSimilar protein, suitable if you avoid dairy
Unsweetened almond or oat drinkFewer calories but much less protein: consider adding Protein Drink Mix
Water onlyNot recommended as a meal: too little protein and energy

What are the main ingredients in Formula 1?

  • Protein from soy and milk, which contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass.
  • Fibre, about 5g per serving including the milk.
  • Vitamins and minerals, including chromium, which contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels.
  • Botanicals and herbs used mainly for flavour.

The full ingredient list and allergens are printed on every tub and listed on each flavour's product page, for example Formula 1 Vanilla Cream. Standard Formula 1 contains soy and milk; if you need to avoid them, look at Formula 1 Free From.

Is Formula 1 a meal or a protein shake?

Formula 1 is a meal replacement: it is designed to replace breakfast, lunch or dinner with a balanced mix of protein, carbohydrates, fibre and micronutrients. A protein shake, such as Protein Drink Mix or Tri Blend Select, is a snack or supplement that adds protein but is not a complete meal.

How does it compare with a typical breakfast?

A Formula 1 shake made with semi-skimmed milk sits in a similar calorie range to a bowl of cereal with milk, but usually with more protein and a known, measured amount of vitamins and minerals. It also takes about a minute to prepare, which is the main reason people keep using it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Formula 1 contain caffeine?

Standard flavours do not add caffeine. Café Latte has a coffee flavour; check the label if you are sensitive to caffeine.

Is Formula 1 suitable for vegans?

The powder contains milk ingredients, so it is not vegan. Plant-based alternatives in the range include Tri Blend Select and Vegan Protein Drink Mix.

Where can I see the full nutrition table?

On the back of each tub. Figures can change when Herbalife updates a recipe, so the label on your product is always the reference.
